Press Briefing: Update on Public Sector Employee Views on Finances & Employment Outlook Due to COVID-19
January 26, 2021 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Join us for a media pre-briefing on forthcoming research that examines public employee views on the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This new national poll finds that the pandemic and economic crisis are taking a heavy toll on the state and local workforce.
The research indicates that since May, state and local workers’ negative job sentiment has increased, with 52% reporting job stress, 44% indicating they are anxious at work, and 54% reporting negative financial impacts from the pandemic.
These workforce issues are problematic in both the short- and long-term. Employees are not positioned to deliver critical public services, and employers will face even bigger challenges recruiting and retaining qualified workers.
During the briefing, you’ll be provided with an in-depth advance review of a new report from the Center for State and Local Government Excellence at ICMA-RC. We also will respond to your questions.
Information for this report is from an online survey of full-time state and local government employees fielded by Greenwald Research in May 2020 and October 2020. Final data for both surveys were weighted by gender, age, income, and industry type to reflect the distribution of the state and local government workforce as found in the U.S. Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey and the U.S. Census of Governments.
