Long-Term Growth in Postsecondary Education Staffing Despite Pandemic-Related Declines

As the Institute expands its research focus to include other public service organizations, a new research brief details long-term increases in postsecondary education staffing, but steep declines in 2020, particularly among junior colleges, technical, and trade schools, local governments, and office and administrative support positions.

Webinar Series: Flexible Workplace Implementation

The International City/County Management Association released a report on local government recruitment of military veterans, based on a survey collaboration with MissionSquare Research Institute.

Not Just COVID – Other Workforce Challenges

MissionSquare Research Institute’s Gerald Young contributed to the National League of Cities blog to explore the non-COVID workforce issues that are challenging local governments.

The new COVID-19 survey report spurred coverage from American City and County on telework and staff retention, while the related infographic on state and local employees views on vaccines was covered by Governing, Highland County Press, WHDH Boston, and the National Association of State Treasurers Morning Brief. Route Fifty discussed the research’s findings on morale and vaccination rates.

Postsecondary education staffing research was featured in Diverse Issues in Higher Education.

The Public Plans Database expansion into state-administered defined contribution plans was covered by Plan Sponsor, 401K Specialist, and by the newsletters of the National Association of State Retirement Administrators and the National Public Pension Coalition.
