Retiree Health Plans: A National Assessment
Virtually all states provide some type of retiree health benefit to their employees. However, these plans differ substantially in their generosity and coverage and thus in their cost to each state. In this report, SLGE and North Carolina State University’s School of Public and International Affairs and College of Management examine the retiree health plan in each of the 50 states. The authors organize the plans by their key characteristics, including age and service requirements for coverage and the cost to the retiree and the state per retiree.
