Tansy Hayward joined the City of Raleigh, North Carolina, as Assistant City Manager in 2014, and she was named Deputy City Manager in 2021. In this role, she works with the following departments: Transportation; Planning and Development; Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources; Engineering Services; Fire, and Finance.
Ms. Hayward has served a number of professional organizations, including co-chair of ICMA’s Task Force on Inclusion, the KUCIMAT Board, and the Alliance for Innovation Board of Directors. She has authored numerous articles for professional journals and presented in conferences and webinars on topics such as equity and inclusion, performance reporting, professional success and advancement, and the evolving role of the professional manager, including “Practitioner’s Perspective –‐ Managing for 2020: An Exploration of Role Interdependence and Balance” in the Public Administration Review. Prior to coming to the City of Raleigh, Ms. Hayward served the cities of Tacoma, Washington; Des Moines, Iowa; and Olathe, Kansas.
She is a native Kansan and holds her undergraduate and MPA degrees from the University of Kansas.
